For most average size living rooms, you may need a 48" or 52" ceiling fan. For larger rooms, you may need a ceiling fan in the 60-70" range.
Standard size ceilings will usually be fine with the down rod that is included which is between 2-6" but a down rod between 12-18" may be more optimal.
12 foot ceilings will typically need a 36" down rod, a 14 foot ceiling will need typically need a 60" down rod. If you have a ceiling that is 15 foot or greater you will need a 72" down rod.
The standard alternating current (AC) ceiling fan is more affordable but will use more electricity compared to newer DC motors.
Direct Current (DC) ceiling fans may cost a little bit more money but are more efficient with power consumption. DC ceiling fans have more than 3 speeds, are a lot quieter and are almost guaranteed not to wobble. If budget allows, a ceiling fan with a DC motor is recommended.
Ceiling fans that did not come with a remote can be upgraded with a universal remote and is fairly easy to install.
Often times the remotes receiver which is located in the canopy at the top of the ceiling will become defective, if the receiver is not located inside the ceiling fan motor housing then it can be replaced.
Sometimes the switch(pull chain) that controls the ceiling fan speed or the ceiling fan receiver(remote) will become defective and can often times be replaced to get the problem resolved.
